The outboard motor had stalled in the middle of the river Hooghly, 40 kms away from the city
of Kolkata, India. We could smell the sea from where we were stranded in the middle of a
river in high tide. The circumstances weren’t great but the setting was so beautiful that I
forgot the problems and looked at the surrounding scenery and terrain with a new eye. Ideas
formed in my head.
We managed to get things right that day and travelled to where the Raychak jetty was to
anchor the boat and trudge across to where my team is coming up with a new adventure
park and resort.
What was the grand idea and why did it take up my happy mindspace?
Tourism and a possible development of a Night Safari that could do an entire circuit of the
old mansions, temples, ruins and jungles left behind by a civilization we know next to nothing
about.
Tourism of the occult, the criminal races, the families who thrived in crimes of passion,
armies who killed themselves inexplicably, temples created by dacoits who had to do
penance for all the wrongdoings they committed on innocent village folk in the bygone eras
and ruins left behind by marauding kings and princes of yore.
It was highly interesting, to say the least. Not just simple monument and nature tourism but
storifying the entire district and bringing it alive for the modern world who do not know
anything about all this.
To do this effectively, I had to undertake research into the history and culture of lands that I
saw that day. Months of research later, I had my plan ready. I showcased it to a chosen few.
There was huge interest in what I proposed. I built on that.
The resort is nearly done. We will start the circuit with the resort as a fulcrum and bring the
audiences and reservations as a combination operation. It is all to be done at night. I had to
choose the roads to travel, the jungle paths to take, the beaches to touch, the temples to
showcase and the villages to coopt into the project. Nearly done with all of that!
If it is successful, it will be the first of its kind. If there are issues, we can correct and develop
more. Bengal Tourism has expressed enough interest. Hopefully, they will engage with us in
the best manner.
We have to ensure the comfort, the technology and the logistics in the best manner possible.
It will happen. Underway already. We need to get there!
Storifying Tourism. Fortunately Bengal has loads of it.
